Scott Abell was named Rice’s Dunlevie Family Head Football Coach on November 26, 2024 and in his first season led the Owls to a 3-1 non-conference mark—the program’s most successful non-conference showing since 2001—and a 5-8 overall record against a schedule featuring nine bowl teams. Abell arrived from Davidson, where he was the winningest coach in school history (47-28 overall, 35-18 Pioneer League) and captured two PFL championships and three FCS playoff appearances. His Davidson offenses led the FCS in rushing multiple seasons and his Washington & Lee teams won three ODAC titles.
