Scotty Walden was named UTEP’s 27th head coach on Dec. 4, 2023 after four seasons as Austin Peay’s head coach where he compiled a 26-14 record and led the Governors to a school-record nine-game win streak and a 9-3 season in 2023. In his second season at UTEP the Miners produced 11 All-Conference USA selections in 2025 including Micah Davey’s conference-best 131 tackles and Kenny Odom’s team-leading 5.6 receptions per game. Walden’s UTEP defenses in 2024-25 ranked among CUSA leaders with 36 sacks in 2024 and a conference-high tackles-for-loss rate (7.3 TFLs per game in 2024).
Coaching Approach
