Named head coach at the University of Kentucky on Dec. 2, 2025, Stein returned to his native Commonwealth after three seasons as Oregon's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach (2023-25). His 2025 Oregon offense finished 13-2, reached the College Football Playoff semifinals and ranked tied for 10th nationally in scoring at 36.9 points per game. Stein’s 2023 Oregon passing attack led the nation in passing (346.9 ypg) and completion percentage (77.2%), and his quarterbacks Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel were Heisman finalists and became NFL draft picks and rookie starters. At UTSA he was co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach during the 2022 C-USA regular-season title and a 30-10 three-year run (2020-22).
